Bellport High School Athletes and Brookhaven Elementary Students Connect Through Second Step Program

Bellport High School’s varsity winter athletes took part in a heartwarming bonding experience with third-grade students at Brookhaven Elementary School on January 20th. This special event was part of the South Country Central School District’s social and emotional learning program, Second Step.

The program aims to help students develop important life skills, such as empathy, problem-solving, and communication. By bringing together high school athletes and younger students, the Second Step program creates an opportunity for role modeling, mentorship, and community building.

During the event, Bellport High School athletes worked with the third-graders to participate in various team-building exercises, share stories, and talk about the importance of teamwork and perseverance. The experience was a great success, with students from both schools enjoying the chance to get to know one another better and create new connections.

The South Country Central School District is committed to providing its students with a well-rounded education that fosters not only academic achievement but also social and emotional growth. Through programs like Second Step, students learn valuable life skills that will serve them well both in and out of the classroom. We applaud the district’s efforts and look forward to seeing the positive impact of this program on our students.
