Recently teachers unions on Long Island have been organizing events to give back to the community. Members of the Farmingdale Federation of Teachers (FFT) shaved their heads for the St. Baldrick's Day foundation, which raises money to fight childhood cancer.  Check out some pictures on their Facebook page.

On April 3, the Half Hollow Hills Teachers Association (HHHTA) took part in a national Light it Up Blue for Autism. Throughout the day, which kicks off Autism Awareness month, members wore blue to bring more understanding and acceptance to people with Autism. Pictured above are teachers from Otsego Elementary School. Check out more pictures on Facebook.

Middle Island Teachers Association (MITA) Community Outreach Committee Member Kevin Mann recently returned from Kenya, where he met with the Kenya Women's Teachers' Association to discuss education issues and to meet with students at a local orphanage. Kevin brought MITA T-shirts and reusable bags as a gift for the teachers. The trip was part of the Hope Children's Fund, a non-profit that provides support for children in Africa.
