LI Teachers Forms Equity Committee

Long Island Teachers has formed an Equity in Education Committee that is working to ensure that all districts on Long Island receive equitable funding and support honest and direct dialogue on systemic racism and inequity.

The group has drafted seven position statements endorsed by local unions across the Island. These include the recruitment of broader diversity among prospective educators, the implementation of antiracist curricula, and the engagement of local PTOs and other community groups in supporting the effort to ensure that our all students – regardless of race, religion, skin color, gender or sexual orientation – feel a sense of belonging in their schools.

The Committee is chaired by James Kinnier, the President of the Teachers Association of Sag Harbor. Other notable members of the committee include Coredila Anthony, President of the Farmingdale Federation of Teachers, Wayne White, President of the Bellport Teachers Association, Perry Fuchs, President of the Plainedge Federation of Teachers, Shahana Khairoola President of the Westbury Teachers Association, and Greg Perles President of the North Shore Schools Federated Employees.
