We are proud to announce that two mission patches created by our very own K-12 art students have been selected to be sent to the International Space Station as part of the Student Spaceflight Experiments Program (SSEP) in the summer of 2023. This incredible achievement is a testament to the talent and creativity of our students, as well as the dedication of our teachers who provided guidance and support throughout the competition.
Over 3,000 individual patch designs were submitted by our K-12 art students, each one showcasing unique and imaginative interpretations of space exploration and its significance. The student designs were evaluated by panels of teachers, administrators, and staff members, and the two winning designs were created by Natalie Yu, a 5th grader from Stratford, and XinXin (Tina) Tu, a 9th grader from GCHS. Congratulations to these talented young artists and their inspiring teachers, Ms. Howard and Ms. Holz! The SSEP mission patch competition provided a valuable opportunity for our students to engage in hands-on, project-based learning and explore their interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). We are thrilled to see our students’ creativity and hard work recognized on a national stage and we look forward to the next generation of space pioneers that they will inspire.
